Hootsuite vs PlugKit, the short answer: pick Hootsuite if you work as a team and need a full dashboard, social listening and governance. Verdict
Two philosophies. Hootsuite is a full suite for teams (publishing, inbox, social listening, advocacy), priced per user: $99 a month on Standard, billed annually. PlugKit is an API and an MCP server driven by your AI, priced per connected account: $49 for 5 accounts, billed monthly. We tested its comment-to-DM on a real Instagram account on 22 October 2026: the DM arrived within seconds. A structured team that wants everything in one dashboard: Hootsuite. A solo user or small shop handing the work to an AI, DMs included: PlugKit.
Choose Hootsuite if
- You work as a team and need content approval, message assignment and routing (Advanced plan).
- You need social listening and trend forecasting, which PlugKit's documentation doesn't mention.
- You publish to Pinterest or Google Business Profile, which PlugKit doesn't support.
- You want LinkedIn, X and TikTok DMs in the same inbox as Instagram and Facebook.
Choose PlugKit if
- You're solo or a small shop: PlugKit charges per connected account ($49 for 5, $97 for 30), not per user.
- You want comment-to-DM without paying $199 per user: at Hootsuite, DM automation requires the Professional plan.
- You want broadcasts and follow-up DM sequences on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram.
- You want to pay month to month at a price you can see: Hootsuite's monthly billing exists, but costs more and its amount isn't displayed.

The real difference: a team cockpit or an assistant that does the work
Hootsuite is a social media management suite built for teams. You get a calendar, a shared inbox, social listening, reports, approval workflows and enterprise governance. Every person who logs in is a billed user.
PlugKit isn’t trying to be one more dashboard. It’s an API and an MCP server that give your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT and others) access to your accounts. You ask in plain English, your AI drafts, you approve, PlugKit posts, replies or follows up.
So the real question is: do you need a cockpit for a team, or an assistant that does the work for you?
Pricing: per user or per connected account
Prices read on 24 October 2026 on the official pages. Hootsuite only shows annual billing; PlugKit only publishes monthly prices.
| Plan | Price per month | What’s counted |
|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite Standard | $99 per user (annual) | 10 social accounts, AI, inbox, brand monitoring |
| Hootsuite Professional | $199 per user (annual) | Unlimited accounts, inbox and DM automation |
| Hootsuite Advanced | $399 per user (annual) | Approvals, assignment and routing, team reports |
| Hootsuite Enterprise | Custom quote | SSO, compliance, advanced listening |
| PlugKit Creator | $49 (monthly) | 5 connected accounts |
| PlugKit Pro | $97 (monthly) | 30 connected accounts, then $3 per account from 31 to 100 |
A European visitor sees €99, €199 and €399 on Hootsuite, while its FAQ quotes dollars. Run three quick scenarios against your own case:
- Solo with 5 accounts, no automated DMs: Hootsuite Standard $99 a month, so $1,188 a year; PlugKit Creator $49 a month, so $588 over twelve months.
- Solo who wants comment-to-DM: Hootsuite Professional $199 a month, so $2,388 a year; PlugKit Creator stays at $49.
- A team of 3 managing 30 accounts: Hootsuite Professional 3 × $199 = $597 a month; PlugKit Pro $97 a month.
That last one isn’t a perfectly fair fight: at $597, each of your three teammates gets their own seat in a full dashboard, with social listening that PlugKit’s documentation doesn’t mention. The per-profile breakdown is on our Hootsuite pricing page. For PlugKit, the math for your number of accounts is on our PlugKit pricing page.
Comment-to-DM: included at PlugKit, Professional-only at Hootsuite
Both tools send an automatic DM when someone comments a keyword on Instagram. The difference is the price of entry: at Hootsuite, DM automation is reserved for the Professional plan according to its FAQ; at PlugKit, comment-to-DM is included from Creator, on Instagram and Facebook.
We tested it on Occirank’s Instagram account on 22 October 2026 for our PlugKit review: one request to Claude, then a real “AUTO” comment from another account. The public reply and the DM arrived within seconds (video in French, with an English summary):
PlugKit goes further on follow-ups: broadcasts on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram, and sequences triggered by a new conversation or a story reply. On Occirank’s account, the welcome message went out 8 seconds after a new contact’s first DM (checked on 24 October 2026). Broadcasts and sequences aren’t mentioned on the Hootsuite pages we read on 24 October 2026.
Inbox: Hootsuite covers more networks
For pure messaging, Hootsuite is broader. Its inbox brings together DMs and comments from Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, X and TikTok, Threads comments, and YouTube moderation through its streams. It offers auto-replies and an AI chatbot, advertised at up to 80% automated replies for Enterprise customers.
PlugKit handles messaging for Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram, including Meta’s 24-hour window and approved WhatsApp templates. No LinkedIn DMs: PlugKit publishes to your LinkedIn profile, without messaging or analytics. On TikTok and YouTube, it publishes and reads analytics, without messaging. In the demo below, Claude sorts an Instagram inbox and suggests replies for you to approve:

Here’s what matters: both vendors ship official MCP servers.
- Hootsuite offers four on mcp.hootsuite.com: Perch (publishing, analytics), Nest (inbox), Lumen (listening) and Parliament (advocacy), with ready-made connectors for ChatGPT and Claude. Its page doesn’t say which plans include them.
- PlugKit offers one, at
https://api.plugkit.co/mcp, with 103 documented tools, OAuth sign-in with a read-only scope option, included on every plan. A REST API with the same vocabulary sits alongside it; Hootsuite mentions no public API on its integrations page.
What Hootsuite does better
Plain and simple, so you avoid a bad migration:
- Social listening: brand and competitor monitoring, 90-day trend forecasting, 13 months of advanced listening on Enterprise.
- Teamwork: content approval, message assignment and routing, productivity reports.
- Networks: Pinterest and Google Business Profile for publishing; LinkedIn, X and TikTok DMs in the inbox.
- Governance: SSO, compliance, advocacy with Parliament, a Salesforce integration.
- The interface: a visual calendar. On PlugKit’s side, the dashboard editor has a single caption field (we tested the interface in French); network-specific copy goes through your AI conversation or the API.
Moving from Hootsuite to PlugKit, or running both
- Count your social accounts: up to 5 for Creator, 30 for Pro. A sixth account is refused on Creator.
- Start the 7-day trial: it begins when you connect your first account, and only one account can be connected during the trial.
- Rebuild your most useful DM automation by describing it to your AI, then test it from a second account.
- Switch off the Hootsuite automation on those same posts, so the two tools don’t fight over the single private reply allowed per comment.
- Keep Hootsuite for listening and team reports if you need them, and check your annual renewal date before you decide.
A suite for a team, an assistant for a solo user. The rest is arithmetic.
