Metricool vs PlugKit: the honest comparison

Metricool vs PlugKit, the short answer: pick Metricool if you want to schedule across lots of networks, analyze and build reports, with a free plan to start. Pick PlugKit if you want your AI to post, reply and follow up by DM, WhatsApp and Telegram included, at a flat price per connected account.

Verdict

Two different jobs. Metricool is a scheduling and analytics suite billed per brand, with a free plan and an MCP server from the Free tier. PlugKit is an API and an MCP server that let your AI act on your accounts, billed per connected account ($49 for 5). We tested its comment-to-DM on a real Instagram account on 22 October 2026: the DM arrived within seconds. Client reporting and publishing to as many networks as possible: Metricool. Messaging, broadcasts, follow-ups and AI-driven work: PlugKit.

Choose Metricool if

  • You want to start for free: the Free plan covers 1 brand and 20 scheduled posts per month, with Metricool's MCP server.
  • Reporting is your job: unlimited history from Starter, PDF and PPT reports, Facebook Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads tracking.
  • You publish to Pinterest, Google Business Profile or LinkedIn pages, which PlugKit doesn't support.
  • You manage many brands on a small budget: $45 a month for up to 10 brands on Starter ($36 billed annually).

Choose PlugKit if

  • You want to automate conversations beyond Instagram and Facebook: PlugKit handles WhatsApp and Telegram, which Metricool doesn't list.
  • You want broadcasts and follow-up DM sequences, not mentioned by Metricool as of 24 October 2026.
  • You want a known price for comment-to-DM: Metricool's Flows are "No extra cost for a limited time", with no future price set.
  • You want to cut reels from raw talking-head footage with Reel Studio, with no equivalent mentioned by Metricool.

The real difference: measure and plan, or act

Metricool is a scheduling and analytics suite. You connect your brands, schedule posts on a calendar, read your stats and export reports for your clients. Its strength is the numbers.

PlugKit is an API and an MCP server that hand your AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT and others) the keys to your accounts. You ask, your AI drafts, you approve, PlugKit runs it: publishing, answering DMs, sending your link to people who comment, following up with people who went quiet.

So the question isn’t “which one is best”. It’s this: do you mostly need to measure, or do you need someone who acts for you?

Pricing: per brand or per connected account

Prices read on 24 October 2026 on the official pages.

Plan Price per month What’s counted
Metricool Free $0 1 brand, 20 scheduled posts per month, no LinkedIn or X
Metricool Starter $25 ($20 billed annually) Up to 5 brands; $45 for up to 10 brands
Metricool Advanced $67 ($53 billed annually) Up to 15 brands; $107 for up to 25; $210 for up to 50
PlugKit Creator $49 (monthly) 5 connected accounts
PlugKit Pro $97 (monthly) 30 connected accounts, then $3 per account from 31 to 100

The units differ: a Metricool brand groups its networks, while PlugKit counts each connected account. Three scenarios to make sense of it:

  • One brand on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, 20 posts a month or fewer: Metricool Free at $0; PlugKit Creator at $49 (3 accounts).
  • 5 brands on 3 networks each: Metricool Starter at $25; PlugKit Pro at $97, since 15 accounts exceed Creator’s 5.
  • You also post to X: at Metricool, X needs a paid add-on (add-on price not captured on the page we read); at PlugKit, X calls are billed at cost, under a default $20 monthly cap.

For posting and analytics, Metricool is cheaper, no question. PlugKit’s price buys something else: WhatsApp and Telegram messaging, broadcasts, sequences and Reel Studio (3 video credits included per month on Creator). Details on our Metricool pricing and PlugKit pricing pages.

Comment-to-DM: Metricool’s Flows versus PlugKit

Both tools send a DM when someone comments a keyword. At Metricool, that’s Flows: comments turned into DMs, keyword replies in DMs, story replies by DM and instant comment replies. They’re limited to paid plans and labeled “No extra cost for a limited time” on its pricing page read on 24 October 2026: enjoy it, but know that their future price isn’t set.

At PlugKit, comment-to-DM is part of the subscription, on Instagram and Facebook. We tested it on Occirank’s account on 22 October 2026: one request to Claude, a real “AUTO” comment from another account, and the public reply plus the DM within seconds (video in French, with an English summary). The other tests are in our PlugKit review.

Send your link by DM to every Instagram comment (no code) (Video in French) PlugKit connected to Claude: a comment-to-DM automation created in plain language, then tested with a real account. Three limits: one message per comment within 7 days, the 24-hour window, the price.

Messaging: WhatsApp and Telegram make the difference

Metricool’s inbox gathers messages and comments from Instagram, Facebook, X, Google Business Profile, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn. That’s broad coverage for replying by hand.

PlugKit covers fewer networks for messaging (Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram), but it documents automations Metricool doesn’t mention:

  • WhatsApp, with approved templates to message outside the 24-hour window;
  • Telegram, through a bot that receives and replies;
  • broadcasts on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram;
  • follow-up sequences triggered by a new conversation or a story reply.

On Occirank’s account, the welcome message went out 8 seconds after a new contact’s first DM, and the follow-up was scheduled at 23 hours instead of 24 to stay inside Meta’s window (checked on 24 October 2026).

Analytics: Metricool’s home turf

Metricool wins here, by a wide margin. Unlimited history from Starter (30 days on Free), PDF and PPT reports, campaign dashboards, a Data Studio connector on Advanced, plus Facebook Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads tracking.

PlugKit reads stats for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and X, with 90 days of readable history on Creator and 550 days on Pro, but nothing for WhatsApp, Telegram or LinkedIn. Its strength lies elsewhere: your AI reads your numbers and turns them into action. On Occirank, the stats Claude read gave two reliable slots over 30 days: Monday at noon (8 posts, engagement of 12) and Thursday at noon (11 posts, engagement of 9). Four other slots, with a single post each, were unusable: better to know than to chase a false signal.

Driving it from your AI: MCP on both sides

Both vendors have an official MCP server, and that’s a point for Metricool: its server is included from the free plan. The details of its tools aren’t in our 24 October 2026 notes.

PlugKit’s server is hosted at https://api.plugkit.co/mcp. Its docs list 103 tools and 3 ready-made workflows (publish, inbox, report), with OAuth sign-in that can stay read-only. It’s included on every plan, alongside a REST API with the same vocabulary.

What Metricool does better

To be fair all the way:

  • Entry price: a permanent free plan, then $25 for 5 brands.
  • Reporting: client reports, unlimited history, multi-network ad tracking.
  • Publishing networks: Pinterest, Google Business Profile and LinkedIn pages.
  • The interface: a visual calendar. At PlugKit, the dashboard editor has a single caption field (we tested the interface in French); network-specific copy goes through your AI or the API.

Running both together

For a small agency, that can be the right setup: Metricool to plan, measure and deliver client reports; PlugKit for DMs, WhatsApp, broadcasts and follow-ups, driven from your AI. One rule: pick a single tool for comment-to-DM on any given post, since Instagram allows only one private reply per comment, within 7 days.

Still weighing other tools? Our Metricool alternative guide sorts six of them by need.
