The best time to post on TikTok: three studies, three answers

There is no agreed best time to post on TikTok. Sprout Social says Tuesday to Thursday between 2 and 6 p.m. and ranks weekends last; Buffer puts Sunday at 9 a.m. first and calls Saturday the best day; Hootsuite prefers Thursday mornings and Saturday daytime. Keep what overlaps, then check it against your own videos.

What the studies say, day by day

Three recent studies give TikTok slots for every day. All of them use your audience’s local time. I read them on 24 October 2026.

Day Sprout Social (2026) Buffer (2026) Hootsuite (2025)
Monday 3 to 5 p.m. 1 p.m., then 11 a.m. and 8 a.m. 5 p.m.
Tuesday 2 to 6 p.m. 6 a.m., then 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday 1 to 8 p.m. 10 p.m., then 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. 4 to 6 p.m.
Thursday 1 to 5 p.m. 1 p.m., then 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. 7 to 9 a.m.
Friday 3 to 5 p.m. 6 p.m., then 10 p.m. and 8 p.m. 4 to 6 p.m.
Saturday no slot (weekends rank lowest) 5 p.m., then 4 p.m. and 3 p.m. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sunday no slot (weekends rank lowest) 9 a.m., then 1 p.m. and 12 p.m. 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Scope:

  • Sprout Social (31 March 2026): nearly 2 billion engagements across 307,000 profiles from 30,000 customers, 27 November 2025 to 27 February 2026, six networks pooled, TikTok included.
  • Buffer (14 September 2026): 7.1 million videos, carousels, photos and text posts sent through Buffer, ranked by median engagement rate. The period isn’t stated on the page.
  • Hootsuite (19 November 2025): more than 1 million posts, times localized across 118 countries. This is 2025 data, published in November 2025.

Where they contradict each other

Weekends. Sprout Social ranks Saturday and Sunday last and gives no slot at all. Buffer does the opposite: Saturday is its best day, and Sunday at 9 a.m. its best slot of the week. Hootsuite lists Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as one of its two best windows.

Afternoons. For Sprout Social, TikTok peaks between 2 and 6 p.m., as attention fades at work. For Buffer, the afternoon (12 to 5 p.m.) is actually the weakest window on most days, and the evening (6 to 11 p.m.) the strongest.

Where they agree

Only one slot really overlaps across all three: Friday late afternoon. Sprout Social says 3 to 5 p.m., Hootsuite 4 to 6 p.m., Buffer 6 p.m. Monday afternoon comes close too (3 to 5 p.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m.).

If you’re starting out with no data, that’s where I would begin. Then I’d let my own numbers decide.

Even a vendor finds something else on its own account

The most telling example comes from Later. On its own account, its social team posts on weekdays at 10 a.m. Pacific time and finds Thursday and Friday stronger. Its explanation: TikTok has become more saturated, and its views drop when it posts later in the day.

That’s not a study, it’s one account. That’s exactly the point: on a real account, the answer looks like none of the averages.

Find your own TikTok slot

Inside TikTok. Buffer recommends the Followers tab in TikTok Studio analytics to see when your audience is active. Hootsuite reminds you that you need a Business or Creator account to access audience insights.

With your AI and PlugKit. PlugKit reads TikTok analytics (views, likes, comments, shares) and sorts them into a weekday by hour grid. Ask your AI to filter on TikTok only and to read the grid in your local time, otherwise your TikTok videos get mixed with your Instagram or YouTube posts.

One trap PlugKit’s documentation flags: TikTok requires two read permissions that are not retroactive. An account connected before they were added has no analytics until it reconnects. The symptom: empty charts, no error message.

Limits

  • TikTok doesn’t provide reach. PlugKit’s documentation is clear: a missing value is not a zero, and counting it as zero skews every average.
  • A cell with one video proves nothing. One video that takes off by chance can make any slot look like the best.
  • Timing doesn’t make the video. Buffer says it itself: the right slot gives you a better start, not a hit, without a strong hook.

To compare with Instagram, the best time to post on Instagram follows the same logic, with different results.

Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to post on TikTok?

Weekday afternoons for Sprout Social (Tuesday to Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m.), weekends for Buffer (Sunday 9 a.m., Saturday as best day), Thursday mornings and Saturday daytime for Hootsuite. All three are averages: test them on your account before you turn one into a rule.

What time should you post on TikTok on Monday?

Sprout Social says 3 to 5 p.m., Buffer 1 p.m. (then 11 a.m. and 8 a.m.), Hootsuite 5 p.m. Monday afternoon shows up in all three, in your audience's local time. Buffer ranks Monday among its strongest TikTok days.

What time should you post on TikTok?

It depends on the study. Sprout Social recommends 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday; Buffer sees evenings (6 to 11 p.m.) win on most days, with Sunday 9 a.m. as the exception; Hootsuite gives Thursday 6 to 9 a.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Do I need to adjust TikTok posting times for my time zone?

No conversion is needed for these studies: all three give local times, so 5 p.m. means 5 p.m. where your followers are. If your followers are spread across regions, Buffer suggests looking for windows where their peaks overlap.
