The best time to post on Instagram on Saturday: the worst day, with exceptions
The best time to post on Instagram Saturday is a tricky question: three of the four studies rank Saturday among the worst days. Sprout Social finds no peak, Buffer and Later make it their weakest day. If you post anyway, Buffer aims for 9 p.m., Hootsuite 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. And if your audience is in the US, Hootsuite puts Saturday morning on top.

What the studies say about Saturday
Local times, your followers’ time. Read on 24 October 2026.
| Source | Saturday | Saturday within the week |
|---|---|---|
| Sprout Social (2026) | no peak | lowest engagement of the week |
| Buffer (2026) | 9 p.m., then 10 p.m. and 8 p.m. | “low” engagement, one of the two worst days with Friday |
| Later (2024 data) | 5 a.m. | worst day of the week; Saturday 11 p.m. is one of its two worst slots |
| Hootsuite (2026) | 11 a.m., and around 5 p.m. | not ranked among the worst |
| Hootsuite, Eastern (EST) | 11 a.m. | the only slot listed for EST |
| Hootsuite, Mountain and Pacific (MST, PST) | 9 a.m. | the only slot listed for each |
| Hootsuite, Central (CST) | 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. | one of two slots listed for CST |
Three studies against, one with a twist
It’s the most widely shared verdict of the week: three of the four studies rank Saturday last or close to it. Sprout Social says engagement flatlines and advises letting your midweek posts keep accruing reach. Buffer advises saving high-stakes posts for midweek and using Saturday evening for lighter content.
There’s still a detail-level contradiction: Buffer finds its best Saturday slot at 9 or 10 p.m., while Later ranks Saturday 11 p.m. among its two worst slots of the week. One or two hours apart, and two opposite conclusions.
Hootsuite is the one study that doesn’t write Saturday off. It gives 11 a.m. and around 5 p.m. globally, and above all its time-zone breakdown puts Saturday morning in every US zone: 11 a.m. Eastern, 9 a.m. Mountain and Pacific, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Central. For Central European time, on the other hand, it lists no Saturday slot at all.
Saturday by industry
In Sprout Social’s data, Saturday stays a weak day for almost every industry. Two exceptions show up across the studies:
| Industry (study) | Saturday |
|---|---|
| Schools & Education (Sprout Social) | 3 to 8 p.m., and Saturday is one of its best days |
| Healthcare, pharma and biotech (Hootsuite) | 8 to 11 a.m. |
If you’re in one of these, Saturday deserves a test. Otherwise the burden of proof flips: it’s up to your account to show your Saturday is worth something.
Test Saturday on your account
- Compare your Saturday with your weekday average, at a comparable post count. Ask your AI to read the grid in your local time and put the Saturday cells next to Tuesday to Thursday.
- If your audience is in the US, test Saturday morning: that’s when Hootsuite’s breakdown shows a slot in every US time zone.
- Otherwise, test a single evening slot, 9 p.m., Buffer’s, with lighter content.
- Keep your best post for a weekday until Saturday has proven itself across several posts.
Key takeaway
Saturday is the day most often ranked last. Unless you’re in education or healthcare, or your audience lives in the US, don’t give it your best content without proof. The next day is more divided: see the best time to post on Instagram Sunday.
